Mission and Goals

As a local chapter of the National Young Adult Auxiliary of The Salvation Army, Echelon Milwaukee is a community of more than 40 diverse young professionals collectively serving The Salvation Army in Milwaukee County. Echelon Milwaukee supports The Salvation Army of Milwaukee County and its efforts to provide shelter, food, clothing, counseling and countless other services to thousands of men, women and children in need. Echelon seeks to mobilize the next generation of Salvation Army volunteers and supporters by providing opportunities for young adults to engage with the organization through fellowship, networking, professional development, fundraising, volunteering and service to others.

History

Salvation Army Echelon is the product of an idea that began in Dallas in 2010. The network of chapters has expanded to several clubs nationwide.

Echelon Milwaukee was founded in late 2014, and has grown from having fewer than 20 members to nearly 50. Its programming is ever-evolving, providing opportunities for members to truly shape the organization.

Committees

Membership committee:

Membership committee members lead the way in fostering a perpetual search for the best and brightest potential new Echelon members (with a cap of 50 members between the ages of 21-40). They also serve as the primary group to facilitate online reviews of prospective members, conduct in-person membership interviews and ultimately guide the onboarding and welcoming of new members into Echelon.
Co-chairs: Matt Bane and Brittany Palenski
Meeting dates: Third Friday of each month

Events committee:

Events committee members take the lead in planning and executing professional networking, speaker and social events for Echelon and prospective members. They leverage their connections and networks, both personal and professional, to manage the best possible events that engage and aid in the development of all Echelon members. Members plan approximately six events each year, generally occurring every other month.

Meeting dates: Third Tuesday of each month

Service committee:

Service committee members take the lead in planning and executing service and volunteer events for Echelon and prospective members. They leverage their connections and networks, both personal and professional, as well as Echelon's relationship with the Salvation Army and other nonprofit groups, to provide the most engaging and impactful service opportunities for Echelon members. Members plan approximately six service events each year, generally occurring every other month.

Meeting dates: Third Tuesday of each month

Get Involved

Echelon members must have a deep commitment to their community. Members are between the ages of 21-40, and enroll for two-year commitments (eligible for renewal through the age of 40). Echelon membership requirements include:

  • Donating a minimum of 15 volunteer hours per year
  • Contributing (by volunteering) to the group’s fundraising goal (including during the annual Salvation Army bell-ringing campaign and Slide the City)
  • Attending at least 75% of scheduled meetings and events

Echelon’s membership is capped at 50 members; therefore, any prospective members undergo an interview process before being accepted into the organization. When full, Echelon employs a waiting list.
